In November, Apple made it possible for AirTag and FindMy network users to generate a link sharing their item’s location. The link, called Share Item Location, shows the item’s whereabouts on an interactive map that automatically updates as the item—or lost luggage—moves.

Delta Air Lines Focuses On Fuel Efficient Planes (Source: Simple Flying)
Delta Air Lines has reduced its fuel costs by deploying more efficient aircraft, an effort that has improved fleet-wide fuel efficiency by 6.6 percent since 2019. Delta added 38 new aircraft that are 28 percent more fuel-efficient per seat mile.

Frontier’s Takeover Bid For Spirit Airlines Rejected (Source: Meetings & Conventions)
Spirit Airlines has rejected a third takeover bid from budget rival Frontier Airlines, saying that it would focus on its own plan to emerge from bankruptcy and stabilize its finances.  The offer this week, like the last bid, offers Spirit shareholders $400 million in debt and a 19 percent stake in Frontier Group Holdings Inc., the parent company of Frontier.

California Airport Gets Approval For $2.2B Expansion (Source: CalMatters)
Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is set for a $2.2 billion expansion after receiving approval from the city council. The project aims to preserve the airport’s mid-century modern architecture while doubling passenger capacity to 6.4 million by 2042. Plans include adding gates, a north concourse, a federal inspection station and expanding baggage claim.

Frankfurt Airport To Roll Out Walk-Through Scanners (Source: Business Travel News)
Frankfurt airport will deploy AI-powered walk-through security scanners across multiple terminals following a year-long test phase. The QPS Walk2000 scanners are currently used for passenger security checks at Concourse A in Terminal 1 and will now extend to additional security lanes in Terminal 1 as well as across the airport’s new Terminal 3. The wide-scale use of the technology has been approved by the German Federal Police, the airport said, and will provide “significantly greater comfort and convenience” at security checks.

New York To Add 5,700 New Hotel Rooms This Year (Source: Hotel Investment Today)
The ADR in New York City has been rising rapidly over the past few years, and so has the number of available hotel rooms, according to the latest data from CoStar.  New York City is projected to open more than 5,700 hotel rooms in 2025. That amount is almost double the No. 2 market (Nashville, another hot hotel market, which is projected to open more than 2,800 rooms).

Hilton Worldwide Holdings anticipates continued growth in travel demand for 2025, buoyed by economic optimism following the presidential election and a resurgence in business travel, said CEO Chris Nassetta. Hilton’s fourth-quarter adjusted earnings beat analysts’ estimates, and comparable revenue per available room grew 3.5% year over year.

Santorini Earthquakes Worsen, Leaving Greek Island Deserted (Source: Travel Market Report)
Santorini has been hit by a barrage of earthquakes over the last two weeks, leaving the island virtually deserted.  On Monday night, the Greek island was rocked by a 5.3 magnitude tremor—the largest yet in this recent seismic activity—followed by a 4.8 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday.

12th Century Estate In France To Open As 5-Star Hotel (Source: Travel Weekly)
Following a four-year revamp, Chateau de la Commaraine, a 12th-century estate in Burgundy, France, will debut as a five-star hotel in late 2025. The 37-room property features a spa, pool, two restaurants and winery, and it has preserved original architectural elements. The estate, part of Champagne Hospitality, also offers wine tastings, hot air balloon rides and bicycling tours.
